Bloody Butcher Red Corn

Item

When you’re given a recipe or you're given a seed, you’re also given this responsibility to share its story. This is a corn called bloody butcher corn that was cultivated in this region…. One of these kernels would make two ears; that’s about 1600  kernels that could go, theoretically, to 1600 different people who could plant them and keep this corn alive.

There’s so much power in that. This corn has such a unique personality, and it's got a unique story – not necessarily about the seed-savers who passed it down to us, but about the people who stewarded this corn here before their land was taken from them and their communities. … Part of taking care of the health of the corn is passing that story down.
