Jerrel Stanley
Jerrel Wilburn Stanley was born December 25, 1915 in Greenup County, Kentucky and died on May 14, 1984 in Pike County, Kentucky. He is buried at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Greenup County, KY.
Very little information is available publicly regarding Stanley. Two of his song recordings are on the album Coal Digging Blues: Songs of West Virginia Miners, collected by folklorist George Korson. The album booklet mentions that Stanley worked in various coal mines beginning in his teen years and that his music was influenced by the style of Jimmie Rodgers. There is also record of his WWII military service, where his civilian occupation is listed as skilled welders and flame cutters.
Stanley also has a mention on the Logan County entry of wvencyclopedia.org for his original song contributions to the folk music of the area.
